It has been a little over a year since I moved to the Pacific North West after living in Hawaii for over 30 years. Being born and raise on Oahu and moving away from the only place I know to be home was difficult but I was excited for the next adventure. I left behind my friends and family and started off on a new chapter in my life. I love living in Washington and going on road trips, hiking, and even surfing. It might not be Hawaii but it is awesome to be out on the water and see Canada only 20 miles away. With these new journeys in life is important for me to never forget where I came from, to know where my roots will always be. Collaborating with Kyle at HiLife ( http://www.hilifeclothing.com ) seemed like a perfect fit. It is my way to keep a piece of me in Hawaii.
Making handmade custom longboard skateboards is a way for my to create something to show my love for Hawaii and the Hawaiian surf culture. We have been able to create some new designs that take my boards in a new direction. I am able to use the laser engraver, which I got thanks to my Kickstarter campaign (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1422087390/daniel-young-skateboards-hawaii), in a way I have yet to do. Longboard skateboards have always been my passion, and I started loving skateboards in Hawaii. So along with HiLife I think we are able to keep a piece of Hawaii and my roots in the skateboards.
